Last week, Max and I were going for a walk around our neighborhood when we encountered 2 little boys on the sidewalk. The youngest one looked about 1, and Max immediately took to him saying, "Look, the baby is running!" like this was the coolest thing he had seen. His mom confirmed he was 18 months, and as we walked down the sidewalk together, Max kept commenting on what "the baby" was doing. I was laughing, telling his mom that he has never referred to someone mobile as a baby before and that he was only a couple of months past his 2nd birthday, but apparently, he felt like quite the big kid.
The next day, we were at the park with some friends, and Max ran over to the "big" swings to see Alex. One of my friend's daughters, who is not quite 4, said, "These swings are for big kids. The baby swings are over there". Boy, did that stop him in his tracks for a minute, and he was probably thinking, "Who is this baby you are referring to?"
It's just amazing how much difference a few months makes in how kids view one another!
