Alex's First Day at Skateboard Camp

This is Alex's 2nd year at day camp (thanks to Grandma and Grandpa), and he is SO excited to be doing a skateboard camp this year. He is attending Sherman Lakes Y Camp, fairly close to Kalamazoo, so he gets to hang out with us all week:)

For a specialty camp, the first half of the day is spent on their activity (skating), and after lunch, they get to do other camp stuff such as swimming, using the indoor rock climbing wall, etc.

He has picked up on skating fairly well in the past year, especially considering he can only practice a few months out of the year, but he still has a lot of tricks to learn. So, while trying to learn a new skill, he face planted on his first run down the ramp and came home looking like this:

I must have tried to mother him a bit too much because after awhile he said, "I wish the counselors would have called and told you about this before I came home". Surprised, I asked him why because I know he's not the type of kid that would want to come home early, and he responded, "So you guys could have gotten some of your, 'Oh, poor baby' out of the way before you saw me!" Still, I know he liked it because when I half-jokingly asked him if he wanted me to kiss his nose, he hesitated for a full 5 seconds before answering no, but he still had a little smile on his face.

Injury or not, I know camp was a success when I asked him if he was hesitant at all about going back today, and he said, "No way! I can't wait!"
