Max's 2 Year Check-Up

The good news is he's still normal! Everything went well except the wait time. As usual, we had to wait half an hour before seeing the dr., so we were there for about an hour. One thing I love-and hate-about our pediatrician is they are really good about squeezing emergency cases in. Great when I have a concern-annoying when Max has a physical. So the big challenge was keeping him entertained, and he quickly tired of the books and toys I brought, so it meant multiple trips to the fish tank and rolling his tractor up and down the hallway. He just won't stay in those rooms any more!

He seemed to have superhuman energy yesterday, and was running back and forth in the room once the doctor actually came, so you can imagine how fun it was to try to get him to hold still for the mouth, eye, and ear exam. I had to hold down his arms at one point, and he just cried and looked at me, saying, "No, Mommy!"

He's still at the same percentile for weight (50%) and height (80%), and all of his development is right on track, except for vocabulary which is a bit ahead of schedule. For his age, 30-50 words, with at least 2 strung together, would be average. Max had a vocabulary of 100 words at 18 months, and probably between 200-300 now, using up to 5-6 word sentences, so he's good:) Even the dr. seemed impressed. By 3 years, he should have a vocabulary of around 900 words. When he's around strangers or those he doesn't know well, though, he tends to use about 10 words. I swear, he talks non-stop! Still, there's quite a bit he doesn't do that many his age in his school class do. He doesn't say his full ABC's or count to 20 yet-he just likes to talk!
