Today, Alex had his class field trip to WMU to see what college life is like, and I had volunteered as a chaperon.
I wasn't sure how much he would want to hang out with me with his friends being around all day, but he was SO cute! He seemed really excited to see me, and I got a nice hug right off the bus. He sat with his friends for the first part, but during the walk around campus, he wanted to stick pretty close to me, and for the next "meeting" we had with WMU students and during lunchtime, he insisted I sit next to him. There were also a couple of times he came up to me during the day and leaned his head against my shoulder. Basically, he acted as if we were home, and I was thrilled he was so comfortable doing so. I noticed several of the girls were sticking really close to their moms, but the rest of the boys left their parents behind, so I felt really special:)
He also introduced me to numerous classmates, and I overhead him tell a couple of his friends, "She's a professor here, so she knows what she's talking about":) Oh, I hope this stage lasts where he'll want to walk next to me and actually listen.
He loved WMU, and of course, he, along with all of his friends, now want to attend there. They were really impressed with the dorm rooms and flabbergasted when the students told them there were no curfews and they could play in the game room at 2 a.m. if they wanted. We saw 2 different dorm rooms-one decorated for women and one for men-and a boy in Alex's class said, "I would NEVER want to go in a girl's room!" Funny.
We were all impressed with the cafe lunch-even me. We ate in one of the dorm's cafes, and they had a massive buffet line with amazing food. All of the kids went to the ice cream bar about 10 times, and I don't think I've ever seen Alex put away so much food. He was even a little gentleman and offered to get my drink for me.
I was really glad I was able to go!
