Max switched to another daycare a couple of weeks ago for numerous reasons. A big one was his previous one did not take infants, and of course, when we have another child, it would be preferable for them to go to the same place:) Also, we were looking for a larger place that offered more, so we searched for centers rather than home-based ones as he had previously attended.
We looked at many, but I think we found a great fit in The Looking Glass. We had to wait 3 months for a spot to open, and we know 2 kids who attend, so we've had great reviews from their parents. They offer sign language for the infants, Spanish starting at 1, music, reading, art, math, and science daily, and they even have their own gym and chef. Max, of course, loves the gym and snack time.
They also have the Tumble Bus for kids starting at 2 and Mad Science beginning at 3. Before you begin to think it sounds too "academic", they follow a very play-centered approach, with a lot of freedom, and they present their "lessons" in very creative, engaging ways that don't really seem like work.
Max is currently in the Bridger room, which children are usually placed between 1 and 2 to 2.5, depending on their readiness and ability to "move up". They receive a watered down, more flexible version of the preschool curriculum. When he is ready to move up, he will be in the early preschool room.
So far everything is going very well, and I love the difference in the staff from our previous place. They are much more friendly and communicative, which is exactly how daycare staff should be! We get a handout at the start of the week stating what activities they will be working on in each area (math, science, etc.), and for the first time, we are getting his "work" sent home! I'm a total dork, so I was really excited to see this:
They were painting with things like pine cones and fly swatters, which I thought was creative. I definitely wouldn't have thought of using a swatter!
He has his first party, a Valentine's Day one, and I'm fortunate enough to be able to make it for the first half hour or so. I'm excited!

I remember when Sophie was in preschool/daycare, and I just loved seeing this stuff come home! Now... there's so much coming home between the 3, it usually finds it's way to the recycling bin before it gets into the house! :) Well, I keep the really special stuff! :)
